Ghana 6-1 Egypt: Ghana could have won AFCON with 2013 squad - Goalkeeper Fatau Dauda

“It is sad that the Black Stars squad that showed class in 6-1 victory over Egypt in the first leg of their World Cup qualification play-off in Kumasi did not win African Cup of Nations, Former Black Stars goalkeeper Fatau Dauda has said”.

According to Fatau Dauda, the 2013 squad which include; Michael Essien, Sulley Muntari, Andre Ayew and among others was a very strong squad that Ghana could have won an AFCON.

Speaking on BA TV Anopa Bosuo Sports show hosted by Kwaku Adjei Richard, goalkeeper Fatau Dauda said, “I was a goalkeeper and it is sad that with quality players at that time we were not able to win AFCON which I always think about it” he stated.

“As a player you always have to be prepared like an army man, I was prepared in advance ahead of that Egypt game. Nobody told me I would be in the goal posts in that Egypt game, but I was already prepared so I wasn't frightened when I was asked by the coach to be in the posts”, he said this when Kwaku Adjei asked him what motivated his performance in that game.

Here are Ghana line-up against Egypt in 2013: Fatau Dauda, Samuel Inkoom, Daniel Opare, Jerry Akaminko, Rashid Sumaila, Michael Essien, Andre Ayew/Christian Atsu, Sulley Muntari/Agyemang Badu, Abdul Majeed Waris, Asamoah Gyan, Kwadwo Asamoah/Mubarak Wakaso.

On Celebration after saving Ronald's header in 2014 World Cup

He said “I want to set the records straight for every Ghanaian to understand, the reason why I was jubilating when I saved Cristiano Ronaldo’s harder during the 2014 world cup in Brazil was that, Our goalkeepers coach taught me a lot of things when watching our opponent’s videos, especially Ronaldo, while the keeper’s trainer also gave me all the technicalities I can use to save Ronaldo's balls from entering my net”.

“So, one of the things they taught me on CR7 before the Portugal game was what I apply to save that dangerous header from Cristiano Ronaldo, so, it was like what we call ap) which appeared in my exams. But most Ghanaians thought I was just happy because I save that header, which was wrong”, Former Black Stars goalkeeper Fatau Dauda added.
